Two-thirds of college graduates struggle to launch their careers according to higher education expert Jeffrey J. Sellingo in the May 31, 2016 Harvard Business Review. Which is what I have observed and is why I often say – It takes “A DEGREE PLUS MORE” for college graduates to be well prepared to launch careers!
Most traditional colleges and universities are focused on students earning degrees, not overall student career preparation. This is reflected in the fact that very few schools offer career education courses let alone require them. There are ample opportunities for students to become strongly career-ready while in college but the structure and incentives for students are lacking. it takes a great deal of insight, initiative, and discipline for students to become strongly career prepared. Which is why the vast majority of students graduate under-prepared to successfully launch careers.
