Why You Should Consider
a Career Preparation Program

The first questions many people ask about C2C Ready is – Why would my daughter or son need a career preparation program?  Won’t they get that at their college/university?

No, actually they won’t.

I have worked in the field of college career services for over 20 years.  And I wish I could say that overall, it is different than it is.

By different, I mean I wish that these things about college career services were NOT true.

I wish college career services were NOT….
- Very much UNDERVALUED and UNDER-RESOURCED by colleges and universities
- SHORT STAFFED with ratios of advisors to students as high as 1 to 3,000 or 1 to 4,000.
- Using students and advisors with LIMITED professional EXPERIENCE
- Built on a old approach of UNSTRUCTURED, OPTIONAL advising
- Measured by NUMBERS SERVED rather than RESULTS OBTAINED
- OUTSIDE of the academic and REQUIRED CURRICULUM
- Mostly UNCHANGED (except office titles) over the last 40 years
- MISUNDERSTOOD and UNDERUTILIZED by students

It is not that the people who work in college career services aren’t caring and committed.   And some are very competent.  But there are several limitations that make OTHER OPTIONS for CAREER PREPARATION an important, potentially necessary option for students that are serious about graduating college career-ready.

That is why I created C2CReady.
